THURSDAY 12th MARCH 2026
@SYDNEY CONSERVATORIUM OF MUSIC
We are excited to welcome to Sydney: clarinet master craftsman and designer Morrie Backun (Founder - Backun Musical Services), and Backun Artist David Griffiths (Professor in Music Performance - Clarinet, Melbourne Conservatorium)!
Internationally renowned as one of the most influential clarinet makers of our time, Morrie has reshaped modern clarinet design through innovation, exceptional craftsmanship, and close collaboration with performers.
To kick things off, Morrie will be discussing all things clarinet, including tuning, voicing, maintenance and the behind-the-scenes of engineering instruments and accessories. Morrie is eager to meet the Sydney clarinet community and will be sharing his insights and wealth of experience, built up over a lifetime as a performing artist and master craftsman.
This will be followed by a Masterclass lead by David Griffiths, one of Australia's most respected and sought-after clarinet pedagogues. Participants in David Griffiths’ Masterclasses have been finalised and we warmly invite you to attend this open session.
Available for trial are the full range of Backun clarinets and accessories, including some very special, never before seen models! We will also be joined by Stuart Brownley from D’Daddario, who will have a range of exciting products for trial.
